And suddenly it feels like summer
May. 27th, 2020 05:33 pmYesterday and today were in the high eighties outside, which has been a bit of a shock to the system. Nate and I went for a hike in the late afternoon today. Thankfully it’s shady, since the trees have all leafed out (when did that happen? I feel like it happened overnight), but I was still red faced and sweaty. But he oooohed and aaaaahed and exclaimed over the view, which was a joy to see.
Yesterday he worked for two hours (!) on a school project with no tears and no complaints (!!!!!) which was completely amazing. Then today’s math review was tough, but didn’t lead to a meltdown, so that’s progress, I guess?
When it’s hot like this I feel cranky and at loose ends - the outdoors allows me to escape from.... all the things. And do concrete projects that make me feel like I’ve accomplished something at the end of the day. Tomorrow should be a bit more moderate, so I can do some garden projects then.
There’s a robin family on our front porch - even though the parent robins fly off and scold us every time we enter or exit the house, they successfully hatched three baby birds, which are growing and apparently thriving, which is impressive. And cute. The babies are big enough now that we regularly see their hungry mouths sticking up above the nest.
